500ml brown bottle purchased from K&L Wine Merchants in Redwood City, CA.

Pours a bright, clear golden colour, with a really lovely cap of off-white that stays proud and full on the top of the beer. Lacing is excellent, forming in lovely swooping streaks and really nice intricate patterns. It's a really good-looking beer, in an oldskool IPA way.

Nose is also very pleasant. It's not overt and punchy, but it has a nice blend of mild caramel malt, giving a slight toffee note, with fresh, bright West Coast hops, which give a mild balance of candied orange peel and pine. It's just an old, pleasant, balanced character. I like it.

Taste is also very nicely balanced. There's bitterness to it, but it's soft and it's presented throughout the palate, so you never get an abrupt spike. There's tangerine, lemon candy, orange blossom and bergamot. It's a soft, subtle palate, but it definitely has some lovely complexity to it.

Feel is soft and light. It's peppered with carbonation, but it's just enough to enliven the palate and let those hop oils shine a bit.

Overall, I really like this. I think it's a very fine, very well made brew, in a style that's certainly falling out of favour. But this shows that when this was done right, it was an excellent style—when the inevitable backlash against haze and lactose comes, beers like this will welcome you back with open arms.
